Announcing the Launch of the Start Being Your Best Podcast

For those of you who haven’t been here from the beginning (or close to it), Start Being Your Best is a project that I started back in 2009 as a method for working out issues I was having in my own life with regards to personal development. I’d always journaled as a way to work through things that I was thinking about, but due to life being life, I’d moved away from doing that on a consistent basis. Building a blog with an audience became one way to keep myself accountable. While I don’t post as frequently anymore, having moved on to other projects and jobs that occupy my time, I’ll still occasionally post what I’m thinking about around here.

One of the projects that has occupied my time over the past year plus has been the Popcropolis Podcast. Two friends of mine, Kevin Reitz and Keith Cotton, started the podcast in January of 2011 as a way to hang out and talk about stuff that they enjoyed from pop culture. A few episodes in, they invited me to come on board as a third host. We were joined periodically by other guest hosts, but it was usually just the three of us, shooting the breeze. If you’re curious to hear what it sounded like, you can go find the archives on iTunes, or click here for an RSS link to the feed from Podbean.

Life intervened again, and the podcast, while still fun, became more of a chore. Trying to find new things to highlight week in and week out for the show became more difficult as Kevin bought a business, and I took a new job that required me to relocate with my family. As Kevin and I became burned out doing the Popcropolis Podcast an idea for a podcast that focused on “life balance” began to take shape. We all have jobs, families, hobbies and other things that compete for our time on a daily basis. Managing and maintaining a healthy balance is always a challenge and often times we find ourselves asking “How does ____ do it?”

So, today Kevin and I are announcing the launch of the Start Being Your Best podcast. It’ll be a weekly show, and you’ll be able to find it in iTunes or your other favorite podcast catchers. We’ll post links to the feeds when they’re up and running, as well as to the individual episodes as they drop.

Our goal through the Start Being Your Best podcast is to share ideas. Through collaboration, our hope is that we can learn from others and share what works for us as we pursue a healthy balance.

As of now, we have identified the following areas of focus:

Work
  • How effective are we?
  • What can we do to be even more effective?
Family
  • Are our families getting enough out of us?
  • How can we improve and become better husbands/fathers/sons?
Hobbies
  • What do you do for fun?
  • How do you manage it against everything else?
Fitness
  • Are you active?
  • What are you doing/how often are you doing it/are you seeing improvements?

Each week, Kevin and I will share what we’ve been doing in each area and what’s been working and what hasn’t. Hopefully some tips will come out of the discussion that listeners can implement in their lives. We also hope to have various guests on the show to share what works for them, as well as a good dose of listener feedback. We hope that through all of this we can build a community that all shares a common goal of improving ourselves and the lives of those around us.

I plan to blog a bit more frequently than I have in the past, and Kevin may join in from time to time. If you like my take on stuff, you’ll probably like his, as well. We’ll look forward to seeing you around.

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
